CORE VALUES AT FIND YOUR BREATH:

  • Function over form as a path to accessibility.
We believe that the practices you do to support your wellbeing and connection to yourself and others should be feasible, enjoyable, and sustainable. Unfortunately many students are taught that yoga means to push yourself beyond your capacity, whether it’s physically or emotionally.. Find Your Breath is committed to adapting these sacred practices to a multitude of bodies, experiences, and abilities.

  • Dismantle caste oppression.
We acknowledge the complex history of yoga in South Asia, and that studying yoga for generations to come also means to uncover how yoga has historically excluded caste-oppressed people.

  • Trans* and gender-expansive affirming.
We move beyond the binary and affirm all identities in their practices by not using gendered language and commit to honoring each person’s relationship to their identity(s).

  • Social justice-centered approach to practicing yoga.
None of us exist in a vacuum, and at FYB, we are committed to offering practices that center the intrinsic connection between individual and collective liberation. We acknowledge the challenges of the current time we live in, and offer tools that allow you to understand yourself more and your role in taking action in your communities.

The non-BIPOC membership offers unlimited access to all on-demand classes, weekly mantra and asana classes, monthly workshops, as well as exclusive discount codes for retreats, workshops, and trainings hosted at Find Your Breath. The descriptions for each cost option is adapted from Alexis J. Cunningfolk's Green Bottle guide on financial privilege.

The Supporter Membership ($99) is the true cost to sustain this platform. If you are financial secure (ex. Have  savings, a 401k, can “nice to haves”), this is the option for you. By choosing this option, you are also increasing access for people who need more financial support to choose a lower cost.

The Sustainer Membership ($79) is an alternative for those who are financially secure but may face barriers like paying off debt or building a savings account. If you have access to financial resources to support your ability to pay the first option, please consider doing so.

The Community Membership ($59) acknowledges that some folks face systemically oppressive barries to accessing wellness, and this option is an effort to actively include communities that are underrepresented in wellness spaces. If meeting your needs is difficult right now, such as paying for healthcare, housing, food, etc, please choose this option.

BIPOC Membership: 79/59/39

The BIPOC membership is an equitably priced option for any Black, Indigenous, or Person of color, also known as People of the Global Majority (PGM). We recognize that BIPOC folks have and continue to be underrepresented and excluded from wellness spaces, and reducing barriers to access is a core value at Find Your Breath.

MESSAGE FROM MELISSA:

Welcome! Thanks for being a part of this community.

My goal at Find Your Breath Online is to create an inclusive, brave space for individuals to practice safely, and to transmute the sacred yoga teachings that I have graciously received and continue to.

Thanks to my parents and teachers, I started practicing yoga when I was a child, initially as a way to heal from asthma. I began studying yoga more deeply at the age of 18, and have completed nearly 2500hrs of training with my teachers in Viniyoga + Hatha Yoga.

I believe that yoga is meant to adapt to the individual, not the other way around. Understanding the state of our body and mind at any given moment helps us to adjust these powerful tools so that they can truly aid us toward clarity, healing and equanimity.

On this platform, the primary way you will see this tuning in happen is through the breath. The breath is at the heart of every practice, because it is a window into how our body and mind is functioning, and a vehicle to experience spirit. When we see clearly, we become more of this world. not above or beyond it. In every asana, pranayama, meditation and mantra practice available here, the breath is your guiding force.

My aim is to offer you practices that help you get in touch with your deepest, truest self, so that you can know your role in taking action in your community - to create a more just, equitable society.

One of the definitions of yoga is right relationship.

Right relationship to ourselves and to others.
Right relationship to the earth.
Right relationship to the action we take against injustice.

The classes on Find Your Breath Online aren't here to solely make you 'feel good' and move on (though pleasure and joy are important). They are here to connect you to your practice with humility, respect, and courage.
