In yoga, there are built in, holistic frameworks for how the physical and subtle bodies function. The Pañcamaya (Five Dimensions) model is thousands of years old, and at the cornerstone of yoga and yoga therapy for describing how the body and mind experience life. As a yoga therapist, this model is at the foundation of how I address a client’s therapeutic plan and support them in moving toward healing, clarity, and liberation.

Maya means ‘all pervading’ or ‘dimension’, affirming that you experience life through all five dimensions and that they are constantly influencing one another. For example, if you stub your toe, you not only experience swelling but also pain, mental stress, and frustration.

In this course, each workshop is devoted to a comprehensive study of each of the five mayas (dimensions). In each workshop you can expect:

  • Grounding check in

  • Description of the maya (dimension) we are focusing on

  • Breaking down each maya into five parts using the bird model by Mr. TKV Desikachar

  • Self-reflection on what is showing up for you in this particular dimension

  • Therapeutic yoga practices for an embodied experience of how this dimension influences the others

  • Smal group discussion to process your experience

  • Chanting practices that help you integrate the material
