Yoga found Melissa at the age of 12, while growing up in NYC, as a mode of healing for severe asthma and a weak immune system. Melissa, at this point in her life, was quite used to feeling unwell. Through her first teacher, her mother, and her subsequent teachers, she learned pranayama, kriya and ayurveda  techniques to improve her lung capacity and vitality. During college, she proceeded to begin her studies with Sudhir Parikh at Nataraja Yoga Center and with VYASA via Bangalore. With a focus on Patanjali's teachings, Hatha Yoga, and pranayama, she began the path of yoga teaching. In 2013 she completed a 200-hour training with YogaWorks in NYC, and in 2015 she completed her 85-hour prenatal training at the Integral Institute of New York.  After moving to Nashville, TN in 2015, she completed a holistic 200-hour training  with Ritam Healing Arts with Saul David Raye and Raquel Bueno.

Most recently Melissa completed her 300-hour training in Foundations of Yoga Therapy at the Yoga Well Institute. This learning experience is based on the teachings of Shri Krishnamacharya and T.K.V Desikachar. Melissa hopes that her continued learning will allow her ability as a teacher to continually evolve, but that she will continue to peel back the layers toward her true, inner self. Her classes incorporate a deep awareness of the breath and are empowering, innovative, and thoughtful. She focuses on making yoga accessible to all, while ensuring that students develop a strong foundation in their practice.

You can find her group classes at The Osher Center for Integrative Medicine,  Liberation Yoga, and Blooma Nashville. To begin individual yoga therapy sessions, visit the contact page.
